Sistine Chapel Ceiling by Michelangelo, Oil Painting

Sistine Chapel Ceiling by Michelangelo, Oil Painting

The Sistine Chapel is the room in which the College of Cardinals is imprisoned and must decide on the next Pope. The walls and ceiling are masterfully decorated. The walls are painted with frescoes by various artists, and Michelangelo painted the masterpiece of the ceiling painting.

Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) is one of the most important sculptors, painters and architects of the Renaissance. He painted the Sistine Chapel from 1508 to 1512. The many figures on the high ceiling look multidimensional from the ground and look like the sculptural figures that we see in the Laocoön Statute. The figures are represented with the power of the muscles to give them a powerful yet beautiful presence.
